Painting The Panhard/Track Bar Bracket With POR-15

I needed to get the Panhard/track bar bracket painted today so it had time to dry before Saturday. That means I needed to get started in the garage right after work, even though it is the hottest day so far this year with a heat index that hit 105 degrees. Yuck! It's a good thing POR-15 is almost the exact opposite of paint and is okay in higher temperatures and humidity.

Here are some before shots of the Panhard/track bar bracket.

I started by spraying it down with MarineClean. I used the lid from a storage tub to catch the run-off.

After letting it sit for a few minutes I rinsed it off really well with water.

Next, I misted the area with Prep and Ready and let it soak for 15 minutes before reapplying. After 30 minutes I rinsed it thoroughly with water. Then I directed several fans at the area in an attempt to reduce the drying time.

The Panhard/track bar bracket was completely dry by the time we finished eating supper and I immediately started painting. Here is the Panhard/track bar bracket after the first coat.

With the extreme heat and high humidity I only had to wait an hour and a half before applying the second coat. Here is the Panhard/track bar after the second coat. It was still 96 degrees in the garage with 70% humidity.

The second coat took just under an hour to be dry enough to re-coat. I applied the 3rd coat at 10:00PM and it was still 91 degrees in the garage. At least the sun was down and I could open the garage door to get some cooler air in. Here is the Panhard/track bar bracket after the third and final coat of POR-15.
