Project: K.I.T.T. is the restoration and conversion of a 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am into Knight Rider's KITT, and the restoration of a 1987 Pontiac Fiero into a daily driven tribute to KARR.
On Saturday we took KARR on his first road trip to Sica Hollow State Park. What we hadn't planned on was the 8 1/2 miles of gravel road leading up to the park.
I needed a new daily driver and I could not pass up a 1987 Fiero GT...it just looked so cool! For an already 27-year-old car, it was in remarkable shape both inside and out! However, there were a few things that needed to be addressed.
Finally! Here is what I have been busy working on the last two months. I am sure some of you have guessed already, but here is a video introducing KARR! This is my tribute to the Knight Automated Roving Robot. We kept KITT in the dark about this whole side project until the filming of this video. You can hear him having a fit over my Comlink...I do not think he is impressed. He'll get over it.
If you would like to know more about KARR's back story and why I decided to create a tribute to him, let me know in the comments and I will do another post.
Fellow Knight Rider enthusiast +Danny Nasiff is rebuilding the F.L.A.G. Mobile Unit and needs your support. Please visit his Kickstarter page for more details. Just a little $ can go a long way!
The F.L.A.G. Mobile Unit is a semi-trailer truck owned by the Foundation for Law And Government. It functions as a mobile garage for K.I.T.T. and Headquarters for Devon. The Mobile Unit was usually parked or driving around somewhere near Michael's and K.I.T.T.'s current location. The Mobile Unit is also known as The Semi, The Rook, Mobile Office, and Mobile Base.
As you have all probably guessed, I've been busy working on a surprise...just not quite ready for the big reveal....however I can say that Zeno's paradoxes should be a factor.

I got off work early this afternoon and could not wait to get started on the Panhard/track bar and the subframe connectors. There was no rain in the forecast and the humidity was more normal for this time of year. I started by sanding the parts with 320 grit sand paper as recommended by the tech support at POR-15. This stuff is tough though and it takes a lot to scuff it.
I started Monday with the intention of getting the subframe connectors and the Panhard/track bar coated with POR-15. It was raining when I got out to the garage, but since the car was inside and I could still crack the door open without getting water in the garage, I figured I would be fine. We have applied POR-15 a few times already when it was raining outside and never had a problem, so I proceeded as planned.
I wanted to finish the trunk area of the underbody today. It was a partly cloudy day and perfect for painting. I got everything together and got started.
