Applying POR-15 To KITT's Underbody (Again)

Yesterday I started reapplying POR-15 to KITT's underbody. KITT had been sitting on all four wheels all week drying. According to POR-15, the metal has to be "bone dry" for it to adhere properly. My mom stopped over early in the morning to spot for me while I got KITT back up on jack stands. Thanks Mom!

KITT is back up in the air...and now the fun begins. I quickly shot a video of what I was going to do today and how I was going to tackle it. If you did not get a chance to see it, you can watch it here.

I had a previously opened a can of POR-15 gloss black that we had resealed using plastic between the lid and can. That method of resealing really seems to work well. We have only had one instance where it was dried up and that was on a can that had about an 1/8th of an inch of POR-15 left in the can. Once I have the plastic between the lid and can, I clamp the can shut in a wood clamp.

I decided that the easiest way to show my progress would be to reapply the POR-15 in small sections and take before and after pictures. So here we go...

In the picture below you can see the weather seal plug for the emergency hand brake cable. We already sealed the hole with flexible grey seam sealer, but I decided to paint over all of it with POR-15.

I also noticed some scratches in the top of the drive tunnel where the torque arm slammed into the top because it is not hooked to the transmission. Raising the car up and down rotates the rear axle enough to throw this arm up against the top of the drive tunnel. I had a towel wrapped around the end, but it either fell off or was removed when it went for paint. I went over this area with POR-15.

I am tackling the rear area of the car this afternoon.
