We're Moving!

Hello to all of our loyal followers! It has been far too long since there were any meaningful posts about this project, but it isn't for a lack of content to post. As you are probably aware, our blog has been hosted on Google Sites. While it is an excellent website platform and did support a blog style announcement interface, it was never really intended to be used as a full-fledged blog (especially not one as large and detailed as Project: K.I.T.T. has become). That being said, Google Sites is being overhauled and a new version has been released. This new version did not continue the blog style interface, so it has become necessary to migrate the blog over to an official blogging platform.

We have chosen Blogger and have begun the process of moving each post one by one. Each post is being recreated and checked for formatting and coding so they display as intended. On the early posts the images are also being downloaded and uploaded to a new host so they are not dependent on Google Sites. This will allow for larger images and improved readability.

One rather cool side effect of all of this is that we will all get to take a trip back in time. As the blog is being recreated, we will be doing it in post order starting with the original post, which is live now. So, if you were not with us from the beginning you will have a chance to see how it all unfolded. If you have been following since the beginning then it will provide a fun way to look back.

The new blog is live now at www.ProjectKITTblog.com. Please bookmark this new address. There are also options to subscribe by email, RSS, and social media if you would like to be notified of new posts.

Once all posts have been recreated, the blog residing at www.pac-attack.com/project-k-i-t-t will be removed. Sara and I are excited to read back through all the progress we have made, and cannot wait to start the next chapter for Project: K.I.T.T.! Thank you all for your continued interest and support!

KITT Visits Jay Leno's Garage

My friends Joe Huth and AJ Palmgren were lucky enough to have their screen used KITT featured on "Jay Leno's Garage"! This was filmed last month in California. The YouTube extra show premiered today and the televised episode will be in May. Congratulations Joe and AJ!

This is the screen used KITT we sat in at Southern Knights Atlanta 2016!

KARR Goes Digital

Installing KARR's New Gauges

I wanted to give KARR's instrument panel a little more of a Knight Rider look, so for my birthday this year Sara bought me a set of digital Fiero gauges from Tom's Digital Electronics. Thanks Baby, you are the absolute best! We had them custom built to look a bit more like the bar graphs seen on Knight Rider. They took six weeks to build, but they arrived a few days ago and I couldn't wait to get them installed. As you can see, KARR was just waiting to pull into the garage too!

Time To Fly The Flag

When Joe Huth, of the Knight Rider Historians, announced that he was making a F.L.A.G. flag...I knew I had to have one! Joe's stuff is always top notch and his attention to the smallest detail means you will end up with the most authentic prop. This flag is the proud symbol of Knight Industries and the Foundation for Law And Government as seen in Knight Rider.

Here is Joe's description:

NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS for the “F.L.A.G. flag”! Modeled after the flag seen flying high above the Foundation for Law and Government in “Goliath Returns”, our large 3’ x 5’ waterproof flag is double-sided and made of a high quality knitted polyester. The back side features the Knight chess piece in reverse. Grommets at all four corners allow you the flexibility to mount it to a flagpole, hang it on a wall, or stretch it between two posts! Perfect for car shows, garages and man caves.
We are offering this flag in two color schemes – black graphics/yellow background (similar to the “Goliath Returns” flag) and a more traditional gold graphics/black background. We had a limited run of 100 made (50 of each style), and when they are gone – they are GONE!

I ordered the black and gold color scheme. Mine arrived today and I couldn't wait to get it open!

KITT Walk-Around June 4, 2017

A Day In The Garage

Sara and I are back to feeling ambitious again so we tackled a bunch of projects this weekend. After church this morning we fixed a rock chip in the windshield of the Freestyle, then rolled KITT out of the garage so he could enjoy the sun.

Shifting Things Back Into Gear

As more and more vendors seem to be leaving the Knight Rider conversion parts scene, I have been keeping my eye out for last chance deals. That's exactly what I was able to score with Billy Chingas's billet aluminum black anodized shifter knob! He has painstakingly recreated the iconic shift knob from the '82 Firebirds, but in aluminum. I managed to get one of the last three he had. :)

It arrived today and I couldn't wait to get it opened!

Wait, I Never Finished This?!

I decided this weekend to dive back into working on KITT, and realized I never finished the taillight harness.  Just for curiosity sake I pulled up the blog post where I started on the taillight harness, and realized it was in July of 2012.  That's insane!  I really need to get back to work on this Project!

I started this weekend by putting a new section of wire loom on the section of the harness I had already cleaned and restored.

New Garage Floor

I had been looking for a way to improve on our cracking and salt-eaten cement garage floor for a while. I saw some Craftsman garage tiles at Sears a couple of years ago, and had been thinking about them ever since. Sears no longer sells the Craftsman tiles I first saw, but I was able to find an online source for PVC garage tiles.

These are twenty inch square interlocking tiles. They sit on top of the floor and require no adhesive. They are water, chemical, and solvent resistant. I chose black tiles with a leather-like look.

KITT's Rear Bumper Video

Knox Rides In KARR

This week KARR had a special passenger. We dog-sat for our friend Jill's Dobermans. KARR took Knox and I to the dog park so Knox could burn off some of her puppy energy.

Five Year Anniversary, An Afterthought

What good is an anniversary if you forget about it? Yeah, that's what Sara said to me just the other day. So here it is three months late to the day...

How I Spend Money

Owning a couple of classic 80s cars is a lot like having children, with one exception (I'll get to that in a bit). We spend an extraordinary amount of time with them. We can't imagine life without them. We post about every little thing they do on social media. They tend to consume all of our attention. We enjoy spending time playing with them and watching them slowly develop into everything we have always wanted for them. When they misbehave we're upset, but we still love them. We spend a lot of long nights up with (working on) them. When they get sick we do whatever it takes to fix them up. We remember fondly what it was like when it was just the two of us before they came into our life. Did I mention we spend an insane amount of money on them?

Installing KITT's Engine And Transmission

Here is a slideshow of KITT's engine and transmission being installed. A special shout out and thank you to Troy, Joel, Myron, and Rudie at Hub Auto! I couldn't do this without you guys! I was not able to be there for the install, but Troy's wife Kerri took all of these pictures for me. Thanks Kerri!

Sizzlin' Summer Nights 2016

We entered KARR in the local car show in Aberdeen yesterday. They estimated there were between 7,000 and 8,000 people in attendance. KARR was a hit and I got to talk a lot about Project: K.I.T.T!

KARR was his usual mouthy self and randomly muttered his classic lines. One gentleman was talking to me about the Fiero when KARR asked, "Now, may I take you somewhere for food?" and the guy laughed and said "Sure, I would like a Big Mac, a large fry and a Coke". We continued to talk when KARR interjected, "I have no eggs. Perhaps you can direct me to a chicken." The guy chuckled and said, "Your car may talk, but it's not very bright. Big Macs don't need eggs." We both laughed to which KARR replied, "There, did you hear. He is becoming abusive." I thought the guy was going to pee his pants he laughed so hard!

There were a ton of kids that loved KARR and took a lot of pictures and videos. One little boy with a disposable camera used the entire camera taking pictures of KARR!

There were also a couple of young women that asked if they could sit in KARR and have their picture taken. I was shocked, but agreed. :)

The show was a lot of fun, and I cannot wait until the day KITT is able to make an appearance...who knows, maybe KITT and KARR will face off!
