The Many Incarnations of Star Wars Part II

This article is part of a series I call “The Many Incarnations of… ”, a column which will chronicle the different game titles that have been released over the years featuring a central character or theme. Pac-Man is here to provide “color commentary,” and Professor Pac-Man is on hand with interesting tidbits of trivia about each game!

1994
Star Wars Arcade

What do you know about this title Prof?

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: The sound test mode reveals that the voice samples for this title are available in Japanese as well as English and sadly only about a dozen or so units were imported into the US Arcades.

Well good ol' George got the name JEDI from the japanese word 'Jidai Geki' which translate as 'period adventure drama', so  why not release the video game primarily in Japan.  Wocka! Wocka!

1997
Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition) Pinball

And you thought seeing the trilogy in the theaters was impressive!  Wocka! Wocka!

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: Some of the more notable features include: An X-Wing that fires a ball across playfield to "shoot" down a Tie Fighter and start a 3-ball multi-ball, Heroic specialty shot sequences, Trivia questions while Han Solo is thawed, and a Millenium Falcon 4-ball Multi-ball.

1998
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade

“May the force be with you, again!” What kind of tag line is that? Who hires these people anyway? Wocka! Wocka!

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: The game also features two bonus stages that become available after completion of two conventional stages. Stage One has the player deflecting blaster shots from Boba Fett back at him with a lightsaber in order to knock him into the Sarlacc pit behind him. Stage Two involves the player dueling Darth Vader on the second Death Star. Losing either of the bonus stages will not end the game.

1999
Star Wars Episode 1

I think “Don't Panic. You've Got Flippers!” says it all! Wocka! Wocka!

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: This was last pinball game Williams/Midway produced and on October 1999 WMS Industries (Williams/Midway's parent company) ceased their pinball operations. This title was based on the 1999 movie of the same name.

2000
Star Wars Racer Arcade

“SHLOSS GO DU BOSKA MALLYA!!” Yeah, now that's what I'm talkin' about! Anyone up for a game of Pac-Man World Rally? Wocka! Wocka!

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: This title features 2 unlockable characters. 'Ben Quadinators' can be unlocked by completing the Expert Course 50 times and 'Gasgano' can be unlocked once the machine has 700 plays in total.

2003
Star Wars: Starfighter

"Da day start okeday wit da sunnup. Me Munchen clams. Den, Boom! Maccaneks every which way, dey flyen, dey scooten... Me get bery scared. Den me grabbin' the Jedi and POW! Mesa here!"  That pretty much sums it up, don't you think? Wocka! Wocka!

From the desk of Professor Pac-Man: This title is based on the events of Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace and takes the player on several adventures featured in the movie.

“You don’t know how hard I found it, signing the order to terminate your life.” My thoughts exactly! Wocka! Wocka!
